Family-Friendly Food in Manitou Springs
> Manitou Springs has good food, but not all of it works for families with kids. Here's how to navigate it.
What family-friendly means here
Manitou Springs is not a chain-restaurant suburb. Family-friendly here means: places that don't mind noise, have enough menu range for picky eaters, and have manageable wait times. Some of the more upscale spots are adult-oriented in feel even when they don't explicitly say so.
Pizza and casual spots
Casual spots on and around Manitou Avenue — pizza, Mexican food, casual American — work best for families with young kids. These tend to be less precious about noise and mess.
Ice cream culture
Manitou Springs has a strong ice cream game. Several shops on the avenue do good business with local families and tourists alike. Ice cream after a park visit or walk is a reliable family ritual here.
Timing for families
Wednesday and Thursday evenings are the lowest-stress times for family dining. Weekends — especially Saturdays — are when tourist volume creates waits and noise. Families with early-to-bed kids do better on weeknights.
The picnic alternative
Several parks in and around Manitou Springs make outdoor picnic dining excellent. Red Rock Canyon has picnic areas. The creek-side park in downtown Manitou works for a casual family outdoor meal. Some families prefer this to restaurant dining, especially on busy weekends.
